Artist Statement

I first entered photography as a way to give my poetry a visual life. I wanted to translate emotion into imagery, to see on film what I could express in words. Once I took those first photographs, I realized I had stepped into an entirely new artistic realm, one that opened a different kind of storytelling for me.

Photography feels distinct from other art forms because of its relationship to presence. The photographer stands within the moment, witnessing everything as it unfolds, yet must decide the exact instant worth capturing. A single frame has the power to evoke emotion, whether through a carefully crafted scene or an unplanned event unfolding before the lens.

There is a particular magic in photographs that emerge from real moments. Landscapes, quiet environments, and people immersed in their everyday worlds carry a truth that allows viewers to feel the photographer’s presence within the scene, choosing that singular moment to preserve.

This union of emotion, timing, and presence resonates with me more deeply than any other medium except dance. Photography allows me to connect instinct, intention, and observation into one fluid practice, and it is this connection that makes it my artistic and professional passion.
